Hajji Gafar Liameed, Chairman of the Lagos State Football Association (LSFA), has reaffirmed his commitment to implementing the agreement with the National Institute for Sports (NIS) regarding the training and certification of coaches in Lagos.
During a courtesy visit to NIS Director-General, Professor Olawale Moronkola, in Lagos, Liameed stated, โNIS coaching training and certification are now mandatory for all coaches in Lagos State to obtain FA Coaching Licensing and operate within the state. We are excited about this valuable opportunity to collaborate with the National Institute for Sports to enhance our coachesโ skills.โ
Thankingย Professorย Moronkola heย Chairman for his pragmatism andย spiritย of sportsmanship, Gafarย assuredย thatย ย theย FA was ready to continue with the signedย MOU since it was done inย the best interest of footballย development in Lagos State.
Gafar disclosedย that 52 coaches have beenย licensed in line withย ย Statutory FA licensingย rules which stipulate that onlyย coachesย certified by NIS will be recognized by the FA.ย He said coaches who are not tooย lettered will be trained in batches of 50 for three months which take placeย onย Saturdays starting fromย September 14thย through to October and November for the first batch.ย Interpreters will be engaged for the training/certificationย so thatย coaches can be properly trained & certified in their most preferredย language.
ย โ Our dreamย is to ensureย that at leastย 2,000 coaches areย certified withinย twoย years . Hopefully,ย the trainingย willย commence on Septemberย 14th, 2024 and it will be done in batches,โ he said.
The DG assured that the training/certification will get underwayย in earlyย September afterย ย a brief opening ceremony at the National Institute for Sports Lagos.
The training/certificationย is part of the vision of Professor Moronkolaย atย ensuring thatย coaches areย upgradedย with modern philosophy and technique.
