NNL Aligning to Ten Years Football Project – Dare

Former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Akin Dare has expressed delight over the progress being made by the Nigeria National League, NNL, under the leadership of Mr. George Aluo.

Mr. Dare who spoke to journalists during the just concluded NNL Super 8 said the progress made was tremendous and in line with the ten year football development program instituted by the Ministry of Youths and Sports Development under his watch as the Minister.

The Oyo State born sports journalist cum administrator said the Nigerian football industry was gradually taking shape especially in the quality of officiating and players output stressing that it needed more investments from the private sector to bring it at par with its counterparts across the world.

He said the Nigerian league which was ranked 13th in Africa some years back had jumped to between the 5th and 6th best league in Africa.

He asserted that the tempo of improving the league must be sustained as the football industry was pivotal to the economic growth of Nigeria just like it’s counterparts in Europe whose leagues had become a major investment driver.

Mr Dare who also lauded the Delta State Government led by Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori for its dedication to sports development urged the governor not to relent but rather invest more in the sector as it had the ability to unlock investment potentials that abound in Delta State.

He however urged other governors to emulate thee Delta example in a bid to gainfully engage the teeming Nigerian youths thereby reducing crime and criminality.
