The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) will award a record ₦1 billion to the champions of the 2026/27 season, while players will earn a minimum monthly salary of ₦2 million under sweeping reforms approved for the domestic game.
The landmark package, announced by the National Sports Commission (NSC), represents the most ambitious financial restructuring in the history of Nigerian club football and is aimed at improving competitiveness, professionalism and player welfare.
Under the new reward structure, the league runners-up will receive ₦500 million, while details of financial incentives for other finishing positions are expected to be released by the league authorities.

The prize money represents a dramatic escalation from ₦100 million paid to champions in the 2022/23 season, rising to ₦210 million in subsequent campaigns before the latest increase.

League stakeholders believe the new financial incentives could significantly boost the attractiveness of the NPFL, strengthen club administration and enhance Nigeria’s football ecosystem.
