NSF: Team Gombe Can Retain Gold In Basketball Event – Onmonya

Team Gombe reignite its quest to defend the basketball gold they won at the 20th National Sports Festival in Edo State after defeating Team Akwa Ibom 46-41 in their third game.

In a tense game that the Gombe side trailed throughout the first three quarters, Michael Daramola, Liman Lesu and Matthew Onmonya emerged with 13 points each.

Team Gombe needed the win to keep their hope of qualifying for the semifinal of the event and if they can manage a win in their fourth game on Monday, they will be hopeful of securing a semifinal berth.

The captain of the Team, Matthew Onmonya praised the never die attitude of the team and called on fans to keep the hope alive.

“These players did a wonderful job, it wasn’t an easy game but we showed why we are the defending champions and can still go all the way to win.

“We will like to urge our fans to keep the hope alive, don’t give up on us because we will do everything we can and see how far we can go.”

Team Gombe will engage the FCT in a crunch encounter on Monday.
