Odion Ighalo wins Saudi Kings Cup

Nigerian striker Odion Ighalo won the Saudi Arabia Kings Cup title with Al Hilal on Friday night following a shootout win over Al Wehdaa.

In the final match, Al Wehdaa scored the opening goal of the match courtesy of a Abdoul Karim Yoda’s strike in the 35th minute.

Al Hilal fought back to level scores when Ali Al Bulahyi turned home deep into stoppage time to send both teams into the changing room at halftime level at 1-1.

Both teams struggled in vain search for goals in the second half and even extra periods played and penalties were required to determine the 2023 champion of the Saudi Arabia Kings Cup.

In the shootout, Ighalo failed to convert with Al Hilal`s second kick but that will count for nothing as Al Hilal triumphed 7-6 over Al Wehdaa to be crowned champions.

A second Saudi Arabia Kings Cup title in three years for Al Hilal who become the most successful team in the competition.

Former Manchester United striker Odion Ighalo now adds the Kings Cup to the league crown from the 2021/2022 season as he continues to flourish in Saudi Arabia.

This will be the size of the season for Ramon Diaz tutored side after a difficult campaign that has seen the club fall short in the league while suffering AFC Champions League final defeat to Japanese side Urawa Reds.
