The 25-year -old World Athletics Youth Championship record holder who has been absent from the athletics scene since his return from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, was to compete at the 22 NSF hosted and won by Delta State.

He told the Making of Champions official YouTube channel: “I want to say sorry to my fans and many who wanted to see me race again at the National Sports Festival.

“I did prepare for it but a few days back, I was doing my sprint workout preparing for the Games proper, and I hurt my right hamstring.

“I was trying to see if I could run with it but Mr Isaac, the Medical Physio for Team Delta had to examine the hamstring injury for a while. We later concluded with the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) that it wasn’t going to be possible for me to compete in Asaba, as the new athletic season is a few months ahead of me.”
