Okoye propels unexpected Udinese to top of Serie A

Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye inspired Udinese to a dramatic comeback victory over Parma in the final Matchday Four fixture of Serie A last night.

The win has catapulted Udinese to the top of the Italian league table with 10 points from four games, ahead of traditional title contenders Napoli (9 points), Inter (8 points), and Juventus (8 points), who occupy the second, third, and fourth spots respectively.

Udinese appeared set to face their first defeat of the season, trailing 2-0 at halftime after Enrico Del Prato scored for Parma in the second minute and Ange Bonny added a second goal in the 43rd minute.

However, Udinese mounted a remarkable comeback in the second half to secure the victory.

But Lorenzo Lucca reduced the goals deficit in the 49th  minute before Florian Thauvin’s equaliser in the 62nd  minute for the Donkeys.

Benefitting from the red card given to Parma substitute, Mandela Keita in the 73rd  minute for a second bookable offense, Udinese went for the kill and got the third goal four minutes after Thauvin  scored his second  goal of the evening.

The victory propelled Udinese to the top of Serie A with 10 points from four games. They will face a tough test to maintain their position when they visit AS Roma in Rome this Sunday.

Notably, Okoye has been a fixture in goal for all of Udinese’s Serie A matches this season, and his outstanding performances have been vital to their impressive start.
