Omanyala serves Diamond League final warning with 9.94 in Zagreb

Kenya’s Ferdinand Omanyala seems to have rediscovered his form and served notice of what to expect this weekend at the Diamond League final in Oregon, USA with his 9.94 run in the 100m event at the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold event in Zagreb, Croatia on Sunday evening.

The African and Commonwealth Games champion won the race in Zagreb ahead of Oblique Seville of Jamaica (10.07) and Olympic champion, Lamont Marcell Jacobs (10.08).

The 9.94 is the African record holder’s third fastest time of the season and the first time he will duck inside 10 seconds since August 19 when he ran 9.97 in the opening round of the 100m event at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Omanyala will now go into this weekend’s Diamond League final in Oregon with the confidence he can become the first African winner of the blue ribbnd event.

The Kenyan will face two other Africans, Akani Simbine and Letsile Tebogo as well as 2022 World champion, Fred Kerley, Jamaica’s Yohan Blake and Thompson Kishane and Trayvon Bromell of the USA.
