The Super Eagles have been stranded at Al Abraq Airport for over 12 hours since landing in Libya, ahead of their 2025 AFCON qualifier on Tuesday.
The Nigerian delegation’s chartered ValueJet flight was unexpectedly diverted from Benghazi to Al Abraq Airport, known mainly for hajj flights, just as the plane was approaching Benghazi.
This sudden change has left players and officials in a difficult situation, with no reception from the Libyan Football Federation and no transportation provided to their hotel in Benghazi, which is reportedly three hours away.
The NFF had arranged separate vehicles to transport the team, but these plans were disrupted by the diversion.
Exhausted and frustrated, the players have decided to boycott the match. The NFF is now working on plans to bring the team back to Nigeria.
