Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 election, Atiku Abubakar, on Thursday met with his major rival in the party’s presidential primary, former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi.
Atiku emerged winner of the recently concluded ADC presidential primary after defeating Amaechi and businessman Mohammed Hayatu-Deen to secure the party’s presidential ticket.

Amaechi had rejected the outcome of the exercise before the official announcement of the results, alleging that the primary election was marred by irregularities and lacked transparency.

However, Atiku, in his acceptance speech after the primary, appealed to Amaechi and other aggrieved members of the party to close ranks and work together ahead of the 2027 general election.
Though details of Thursday’s meeting were still sketchy as at press time, neither Atiku nor Amaechi had addressed journalists on the outcome of the talks.
Sources within the party, however, said the meeting may not be unconnected with efforts by Atiku to reconcile aggrieved party stakeholders and secure Amaechi’s support ahead of the presidential election.
