Senate Chief Whip and former Governor of Abia State Dr Orji Uzor Kalu has called for immediate sacking of the NFF management team following Super Eagles shambolic display in the World Cup play-off Tuesday night against Black Stars of Ghana

Ghana shattered Nigeria’s dream of securing a slot to the World Cup in Qatar in November after holding the Eagles to a 1-1 draw in front of massive crowd at the Abuja national stadium. The first leg of the two legged battle had ended goalless in Kumasi with many Nigerians expecting the team to re-strategise and seal victory at home. But the Black stars proved a hard nut for th Eagles to cross shooting into the lead as early as the 11th minute leaving the Eagles to struggle for an equalizer through penalty converted by William Troost-Ekong.

Reacting to the loss, Sen. Kalu, said it was a sad day for lovers of sports in the country.

In a Facebook post, he said Nigerians have been patient enough in the past five years with the poor performance of the Eagles, calling for a new management team that will bring the desired results.

He said, “What a sad night for all soccer lovers . It is high time the entire management of Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) become overhauled . In the past five years , we have been patient with incompetence in what we should be the best.

“The reality is that football is same with science courses like Medicine and Engineering where you can’t cut corners , otherwise you produce quack and incompetent people.

“The Federal Government and Nigerians have supported the NFF beyond measures and since they can’t give us the needed results, they should be sacked for a better and more tactical management.”

Nigeria has been at the world cup six times , the last being at the 2018 edition in Russia . The team then led Genot Rohe crashed out in the group stage after losing two matches against Croatia and Argentina and picking just a win against Iceland.
