Ramat Jimoh runs new lifetime best again, qualifies for first SEC Outdoor Championships final

Ramat Jimoh set another lifetime best in the women’s 1500m for the second time under a month to earn a spot in Saturday’s final after finishing 12th in the prelims with a time of 4:25.43!.

Jimoh, competing in her first SEC Outdoor Championships at the Bernie Moore Track Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana improved on the 4:29.24 she ran at the Tom Jones Memorial in Gainesville, Florida in April.

The athlete who was under the tutelage of coach Tony Osheku before getting a track scholarhip to Mississippi State University this year has been improving with every race, especially in the 1500m since she got to her new school.

She left Nigerian with the 4:36.20 she ran at the 2nd AFN All Comers held at Yabatech Sport Complex in Lagos in April 2022.

The 19 year old has also improved her 3000m personal best from the 10:29.39 she ran at the Lagos State Athletics Pre Sports Festival Trials last year to 10:05.23 at the Tom Jones invitational last month.

In Saturday’s final, Jimoh will be expected to produce another lifetime best that should move her closer to the 4:17.1 (hand timing) Nigeria record Victoria Moradeyo ran in Lagos in July 1999.
