Rashford wins EPL player of the month for January

Marcus Rashford has been named as the Premier League’s Player of the Month for January, after his role in helping Manchester United beat their city rivals in the derby, while Mikel Arteta won the manager’s equivalent for his role guiding Arsenal.

The England striker was part of Erik ten Hag’s side which turned it around against Manchester City to beat them 2-1 on January 14.

It is the second time this season that Rashford has claimed the award, having also nabbed it for his performances in September last year.

Meanwhile, this is Arteta’s third Manager of the Month award during the 2022-23 campaign, and his fifth overall.

Marcus Rashford is player of the month

Rashford’s January saw him feature in four of United’s league games, including Bournemouth and Man City, while he scored three times, including a corker to open the scoring during their narrow defeat to league leaders Arsenal.

Arsenal’s month saw them retain their lead at the top of the Premier League, going unbeaten in the league with a goalless draw against Newcastle United followed by vital victories against Tottenham Hotspur and Man United.

However, they did not go unbeaten in all competitions, as Man City eliminated them from the FA Cup.

Manchester United’s successful January spell saw them stay in the Premier League’s top four, while they also made it to the FA Cup fifth round, and a solid first-leg performance against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup semi-final was consolidated with a 2-0 win on Wednesday to take them to the final at Wembley this month.
