Cristiano Ronaldo has reached an agreement with Al Nassr to extend his contract for an additional year, keeping him with the Saudi club until June 2026, an official confirmed to AFP on Monday.
While the sides have agreed on the extension, which includes a renewable option, it has not been officially signed yet, and an announcement is expected in the coming days.
Ronaldo, who turned 40 last week, is currently under contract until June 2025. The legendary former Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus forward joined Al Nassr in January 2023, scoring 82 goals in 90 appearances.
In August, Ronaldo confirmed his intention to remain with Al Nassr for the remainder of his career, which he suggested could end soon or in the next two to three years.
“But it’ll most likely happen with Al Nassr, in the team that makes me happy… and where I feel good.”
The Portuguese great appeared to trade an end-of-career payday for football obscurity when he moved to Riyadh’s Al Nassr two years ago in a deal said to be worth $250 million.
But his influence became clear when he was followed by a parade of ageing superstars to the big-spending Saudi Pro League.
In December, Saudi Arabia was awarded the 2034 World Cup, marking the pinnacle of the nation’s ambitious efforts to reshape its image through sports, tourism, and culture.
When Cristiano Ronaldo launched his YouTube channel in August, he broke records, gaining one million subscribers in just 90 minutes and 20 million within 24 hours. He now boasts an impressive 73.5 million subscribers.
While a World Cup victory may have eluded him—unlike his Argentine counterpart Lionel Messi—Ronaldo’s legacy is far from finished, with numerous records still within reach. As he nears 1,000 professional goals in official matches, the five-time Ballon d’Or and Champions League winner continues to add to his remarkable career.
However, despite his stellar individual form, Ronaldo has yet to secure a major Saudi or continental title with Al Nassr, with his only triumph at the club being the 2023 Arab Club Champions Cup.
