Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Wednesday inaugurated Local Government Renewed Hope Coordinators as part of efforts to strengthen grassroots engagement and deepen public awareness of Federal Government programmes.

The inauguration, held at 10 Degrees Events Centre, Oregun, Ikeja, saw coordinators drawn from the 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) formally sworn in.

Sanwo-Olu described the Renewed Hope Ambassadors initiative as an activation platform designed to drive public sensitisation and promote citizens’ participation in national development.

According to him, the initiative is not a political campaign but a civic engagement framework aimed at keeping Nigerians informed about government reforms and policy outcomes.

“This is not a campaign rally. It is an activation of what we believe in and a commitment to informing citizens about government programmes and promises being fulfilled,” the governor said.

He charged the coordinators to take the message of government reforms to communities, wards and polling units, noting that the structure would bridge communication gaps between policy formulation and grassroots implementation.

The governor highlighted what he described as key achievements of the Federal Government, including infrastructure expansion, economic stabilisation, improved foreign direct investment inflows and enhanced social welfare interventions.

He added that progress had also been recorded in currency stabilisation efforts and the implementation of a new minimum wage for workers.

Sanwo-Olu urged the coordinators to intensify community engagement across the state, assuring them of institutional support to discharge their responsibilities effectively.

To facilitate their operations, he announced that each of the 20 local government coordinators would receive a brand-new vehicle to aid grassroots mobilisation.

In his welcome address, Renewed Hope Ambassador Tayo Ayinde described the inauguration as a strategic move to strengthen public confidence and deepen citizen participation in governance.

Ayinde said the initiative operates within a coordinated national framework led by its Director-General, Governor Hope Uzodimma, with structures extending from the national level to local communities.

He urged the coordinators to serve as credible links between government and the people by disseminating information on national programmes to markets, campuses and community clusters.

Dignitaries at the event included Deputy Governor Dr Obafemi Hamzat; Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa; members of the National Assembly; State Executive Council members; Lagos APC Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi; Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro; council chairmen; party executives; traditional rulers and other stakeholders from the Southwest.

The Renewed Hope Ambassadors initiative is expected to expand to all 57 local governments and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Lagos State.
