Senate Leader Michael Opeyemi Bamidele has commended Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji for what he described as landmark improvements in sports infrastructure across the state.
Bamidele, who represents Ekiti Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly, gave the commendation at a sports fiesta organised by the Alumni Association of Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado Ekiti.
The Senate leader cited the renovation of the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium in Ado Ekiti as a flagship achievement, noting that the facility now ranks among the best in the country. Improvements to the stadium include the installation of an artificial turf on the football pitch, new electronic scoreboards, a tartan track for athletics, an administrative block, a sports hostel and an upgraded volleyball court.
Bamidele, who spoke through his senior legislative aide, Toyin Ayoola, also highlighted a new indoor sports hall under construction, describing it as the first of its kind in Nigeria. He added that the elevation of the Ekiti Sports Council to a sports commission represented another significant policy milestone.
He further noted that Ekiti United FC and Ekiti Queens had their best outings in the recently concluded National Football League and Nigeria Women Football League seasons respectively.
The Senate leader urged Ekiti residents to continue supporting the governor to attract further development to the state.
The event, which was aimed at galvanising support for Governor Oyebanji, featured a novelty football match between EKSU Alumni and Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) Alumni, which ended 2-2, as well as athletics events for male and female participants.
Among those present were EKSU Vice Chancellor Professor Joseph Ayodele, a representative of Venite University, Iloro Ekiti, EKSU Alumni Global President Ambassador Seyi Idowu, his FUOYE counterpart and the governor’s Special Adviser on Housing, Gboyega Oloniyo
