Vice President Kashim Shettima will on December 2 and 3 lead a distinguished gathering of media stakeholders, government officials and thought leaders to the 2025 International Press Institute (IPI) Nigeria Annual Conference and General Meeting in Abuja.
The meeting, scheduled for the NICON Luxury Hotel, underscores the value the global media body places on its Nigerian chapter, with an impressive lineup of participants confirmed for this year’s edition.
Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris; Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Oluwatosin Ajayi; Baze University Registrar and Mass Communication scholar, Prof. Abiodun Adeniyi; former Information Minister, Alhaji Lai Mohammed; former presidential spokesman, Mallam Garba Shehu; and ex-State Chief of Protocol, Ambassador Lawal Kazaure, are among the high-profile guests expected.
Also attending are senior media figures, including IPI Global Executive Director, Scott Griffen; and former Ogun State Governor and veteran journalist, Aremo Olusegun Osoba. Presidents of key media associations—NPAN’s Maiden Alex-Ibru, NGE’s Eze Anaba, GOCOP’s Danlami Nmodu and NUJ’s Alhassan Yahya Abdul—have equally been invited.

Heads of information agencies under the ministry will join the conference. They include NOA DG Lanre Issa-Onilu; VON DG Jibrin Baba Ndace; FRCN DG Mohammed Bulama; NTA DG Salihu Dembos; and NAN MD Ali M. Ali.
Other notable attendees include former SGF spokesperson Haruna Imrana; former NIJ Provost Gbemiga Ogunleye; IPI Global Board member Raheem Adedoyin; Bayero University’s Dr. Sule Yau Sule; and PRNigeria Publisher, Yushau Shuaib.
Shettima will chair the conference, while Minister Idris is expected to deliver a special address. Griffen will convey a solidarity message from IPI headquarters in Vienna.
Prof. Adeniyi will unveil the IPI Nigeria Book of Infamy, with IPI Nigeria President Musikilu Mojeed coordinating a Surprise Honorary Event.
The conference will feature two major papers. The first—Addressing Media Repression in Nigeria: Safeguarding Press Freedom and Democratic Accountability—will be delivered by Media Rights Agenda (MRA) Executive Director, Edetaen Ojo. The session, moderated by Funke Egbemode, will have as panelists: International Press Centre’s Lanre Arogundade; Force PRO Benjamin Hundeyin; CJID Deputy Director Busola Ajibola; and National Security Adviser’s Special Adviser, Idayat Hassan.
The second paper—Building Sustainable Media in Nigeria: Navigating Innovation, Credibility and Revenue Challenges—will be delivered by CBD MediaEdge President/CEO and Media Trust Co-Founder, Isiaq Ajibola. Channels Television Vice-Chair Olusola Momoh; LEADERSHIP Editor-in-Chief Azu Ishiekwene; and MacArthur Foundation Nigeria Director, Kole Shettima, will serve as panelists. Prof. Abigail Ogwezzy-Ndisika of the University of Lagos will moderate.
The second day is reserved for IPI Nigeria members and will conclude with the induction of new members.
