Smart City Football Club acknowledges and welcomes the recent review and favourable verdicts by the Disciplinary Committee of the Lagos State Football Association (LSFA), concerning the occurrence that ended the FA Match against Inter Lagos FC. The verdicts affirm our unwavering commitment to improving professionalism, integrity, and the development of football in Lagos and beyond.
We appreciate the diligence and objectivity of the LSFA, in ensuring fair play and justice within the football ecosystem played out especially, with a show of motherly heart and concern for the numerous football talent across Lagos State.
This decision further strengthens our resolve to uphold the highest standards in football administration, talent development, and competitive sportsmanship.
- We first undertake more strongly than ever, to put our fans under control through reorientationing, that emotions must not overrun our love for the beautiful game.
- We will write an apology to the Lagos State Football Referees Council (LSFRC) on the unfortunate situation.
- We will ensure that Mr. Mikhail Wonuola Marcus, the fan who lost it during our game, brought to book adequately.
We hereby extend our top sporting regards to the Disciplinary Committee for listening and attending to our appeal
- The LSFA Disciplinary Committee has been kind to consider the reductions on the well-being and future of the players and the ruinous effects it would have on the career of the players.
- It also stated that the club’s swift action to arrest and hand the violent football fan who caused the incident to the Nigerian Police for further actions, also swayed the LSFA to reduce the sanctions.
- That the fine was reduced to 1 year, beginning with a 3 months ban that runs from 3rd of March till 2nd of June, 2025. Including the ban excluding the team from the Lagos State President Federation Cup of the 2025/2026 season.
- The team’s financial sanctions are hence reduced from N6million to N3million.
- That the team (Smart City FC), is hereby banned from participating in all the LSFA sanctioned football competitions.
These are still very painful, but we embrace them with total sportsmanship spirit, knowing that the law has to take its course.
Yet, Smart City FC remains dedicated to fostering young talents, promoting grassroots football, and contributing positively to the growth of Nigerian football.
