Smart City football club of Lagos, join the entire football fraternity to mourn the passing away of former Super Eagles legendary goalkeeper Peter Rufai, who died on Thursday, aged 61.
Senior special assistant on grassroots sports development to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and president of Smart City Football Club Adeboye Anthony Adeyinka, has expressed shock over the death of one of Nigeria’s most gifted and successful goalkeepers, saying his memories will live forever.
Adeboye, who was close to the late shot stopper, smart city family is truly devastated with the news of the sudden death of Rufai, and they are totally sad that, Nigeria has lost a great patriot that will be remembered for a life time.

“I want to say, the news of Rufai’s Death is one of the saddest news that really hit me very hard because he was close to me, and for his patriotism and dedication to service will be hard to forget,” he said
“The entire smart city sympathise with the family and loved ones he left behind, may God give them the fortitude to bear this huge loss,” he added.
Peter Rufai made his international debut in December 1981 in a friendly match for the then Green Eagles, marking the beginning of a 17-year journey in the national team. He went on to become a stalwart in goal, representing Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the FIFA World Cup with distinction.
