Spain beat England 2-1 to win Euro 2024

Spain clinched a dramatic late victory in Berlin on Sunday to claim their fourth Euro 2024 title with a 2-1 win over England, underscoring their resurgence on the international stage.

Substitute Mikel Oyarzabal emerged as the hero, scoring the decisive goal in the 86th minute to end England’s hopes of securing their first major title in nearly sixty years.

Despite losing influential midfielder Rodri to injury at halftime, Spain swiftly took the lead early in the second half through Nico Williams, assisted by star winger Lamine Yamal.

England, known for their comeback abilities throughout the tournament, equalized in the 73rd minute courtesy of substitute Cole Palmer.

However, Spain regained the lead and secured the victory when Oyarzabal converted a cross in the dying minutes, securing their record fourth European Championship crown and third in the last five editions.

Spain’s dominance throughout Euro 2024 was evident, as they controlled the game against England, who were hoping to claim their maiden men’s international title outside of their 1966 World Cup triumph.

The loss marked England’s second consecutive defeat in Euro finals, following their shootout heartbreak against Italy three years ago.

For Spain, the win signifies a continuation of their footballing legacy, with previous Euro triumphs in 1964, 2008, and 2012, complemented by their 2010 World Cup victory.

The team, led by rising star Yamal, displayed resilience and skill throughout the tournament, culminating in a well-deserved victory in Berlin.

The match saw Spain initially controlling possession, despite a strong defensive effort from England in the first half.

Despite Rodri’s injury setback, Spain remained composed and capitalized on their attacking opportunities, ultimately sealing their championship victory with Oyarzabal’s late heroics.

As celebrations ensued in Berlin, Spain’s triumph highlights their sustained excellence in international football, while England faces disappointment yet again in their quest for Euro glory.
