Super Eagles land in AFCON knock-out stage after defeat of Sudan

Date:

Super Eagles on Saturday evening beat Sudan 3-1 to advance into the Round of 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon. With the win, they now have six points which guarantee advancement into the next stage, though their position is not yet decided.

Egypt will take on Guinea Bissau later on the same Roumde Adjia Stadium in Garoua.

The Super Eagles had a dream start as Samuel Chukwueze put Nigeria ahead after three minutes. After a catalogue of misses, Taiwo Awoniyi doubled Nigeria’s lead going into the half time.

Just as the second half began, hard-working Moses Simon scored the third goal.

A VAR decision gifted the Sudanese a penalty kick that was converted by Waliedin Khidir.
