SWAN Congratulates Gumel urges establishment of CAS

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, (SWAN) FCT chapter congratulates Engineer Habu Gumel for his re-election as President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), at the polls in Jalingo, Taraba State.

Mr Gumel polled 21 votes to beat Mr Sani Ndanusa who had 19 votes on Thursday in the Taraba state capital.

Chairman of the Association, Mr. Bunmi Haruna said, “Congratulations to Engineer Gumel and everyone who got elected in in Jalingo. It is good to see notable names like former D’Tigers captain, Olumide Oyedeji, former AFN President, Solomon Ogba, NBBF President, Ahmadu Musa Kida, respected journalist, Tony Nezianya on the board on of the NOC.

“We have no doubt that you deserve your positions because you have paid your dues. We urge you to run an all inclusive government, work to build on the successes recorded at the last commonwealth Games in Birmingham, support Nigerian athletes to have an outstanding outing for for the country at the next Olympics games in Paris, France, 2024 and make development your priority.

 SWAN FCT chapter urges Gumel to work with the sports ministry to establish a branch of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS)in Nigeria. This will go a long way in checkmating the highly disturbing menace of court cases in Nigerian sports.

We also urge you to immediately set the ball rolling for preparation of athletes for the next Olympics. Play the politics so that government would release founds on time.”

Also elected were, Solomon Ogba as First Vice President, Ishaku Tikon as Second Vice President, Olumide Oyedeji as the Third Vice President, Olabisi Joseph as the fourth Vice President.

Others include, Musa Kida as Treasurer, Tony Nezianya as Public Relations Officer(PRO), Tunde Popoola as Secretary General and Abdullahi Mohammed as the Deputy Secretary General.
