The Vice-Chancellor of Tai Solarin Federal University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun, Ogun State, Prof. Adekunle Adeogun, has announced that 5,141 students will graduate at the institution’s 17th convocation ceremony scheduled for next Wednesday and Thursday.
Adeogun also revealed that the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has provided critical support to students, disclosing that 4,210 undergraduates benefitted from loans totalling about ₦700 million in the 2025/2026 academic session, a development he said has helped many students remain in school.
The Vice-Chancellor further announced that the university will confer honorary Doctor of Science (Education) degrees on the First Lady and wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, at the ceremony. Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and former governor, Chief Olusegun Osoba, will also receive honorary doctorate degrees in Education Management and Political Science, respectively.
Adeogun made the disclosures at a media briefing held at the university’s Senate Building to outline activities lined up for the convocation.
Providing a breakdown of the graduands, he said 4,785 regular students would be awarded first degrees, including 40 First Class, 1,466 Second Class Upper, 2,768 Second Class Lower, 492 Third Class and 19 Pass degrees. An additional 356 students will receive postgraduate degrees, bringing the total number of graduands to 5,141.
He announced Bukola Osunrinde, a Computer Science graduate who recorded a perfect cumulative grade point average of 5.0, as the overall best graduating student.

The Vice-Chancellor also disclosed that the National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved 12 new undergraduate programmes and four doctoral programmes for the institution. The newly approved courses include Entrepreneurship, Physics and Electronics, Cyber Security, Data Science, Agricultural Science, Agricultural Extension, Agricultural Economics, Adult Education, Yoruba, Christian Religious Knowledge, Fisheries and Aquaculture, among others.
Speaking on the impact of NELFUND, Adeogun described the scheme as a major intervention that has eased financial pressure on students and expanded access to tertiary education.
“NELFUND is a fantastic initiative. It ensures that no student is denied quality tertiary education because of financial constraints. In the 2025/2026 academic session alone, 4,210 of our students benefitted to the tune of ₦700 million,” he said, commending President Bola Tinubu for prioritising access to higher education.
Adeogun added that the university’s 20th anniversary lecture, earlier scheduled for November last year, will now hold on Wednesday as part of the convocation programme and will be delivered by the Minister of Education, Dr. Moruf Alausa.
He said the institution currently enjoys 100 per cent accreditation from the NUC and continues to review its curricula in line with global best practices, with emphasis on STEM education, digital pedagogy, entrepreneurship and inclusive learning.
The Vice-Chancellor noted that the adoption of the university by the Federal Government has strengthened its role within the national teacher education framework and boosted infrastructural development. He added that significant investments have been made in lecture theatres, laboratories, ICT infrastructure and e-learning facilities.
Adeogun also highlighted the growing global impact of the university’s alumni, noting that a year after alumnus Dr. Kayode Adewale was listed among the world’s top 50 teachers, a postgraduate student of the institution, Adeola Olufunke Akinsulure, currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Educational Technology, has emerged as one of the top 10 finalists in a global education ranking.
