Three persons sustained minor injuries after fire gutted three bungalow residential buildings at Amosun Compound, Aremo, Ibadan, Oyo State, on Friday.
Eyewitnesses said the fire started around 12:05 a.m. when an electrical appliance left plugged in during a power outage sparked as electricity was restored.
The blaze reportedly raged for over an hour before being extinguished, and the injured were rushed to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.
Moroof Akinwande, Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Fire Services Reform, confirmed the incident in a statement.
“The agency received a distress call at 00:15 hours today from Mr. Mayowa about a house on fire at Amosun Compound, Aremo, Ibadan. Fire personnel, led by CFS Adekola, promptly responded and were deployed to the scene,” Akinwande said.

He added, “Upon arrival, three bungalow residential buildings were engulfed by flames. Our officers immediately swung into action, requesting an additional fire truck from the Fire Service Headquarters. The fire was contained, preventing its spread to nearby buildings, and was successfully extinguished. Three persons were rescued alive with minor injuries and treated at a nearby hospital. The fire resulted from an electrical appliance left plugged in during a power outage, which ignited when power was restored.”
Akinwande urged residents to unplug appliances when not in use and to save emergency contact numbers — 08067439223, 08054353501, or 615 (toll-free). He also stressed the importance of installing fire extinguishers at home to contain early-stage fires.
In a related incident, the Oyo State Fire Service reported dousing a fire at Ajibade Street, opposite Guarantee Trust Bank, Mokola, Ibadan.
“The emergency was reported at 19:14 hours on Thursday through a call from DPO Bódìjà Estate. Fire personnel, led by CFS Adekola, promptly responded,” Akinwande said.
He explained, “On arrival, we found heaps of refuse burning and threatening nearby buildings. Our firemen contained the flames, preventing damage to surrounding properties. No casualty was recorded, and properties worth millions of naira were saved. A crew from the Federal Fire Service was also in attendance. The fire was set by an unknown person.”
Akinwande advised communities to refrain from setting refuse and bushes on fire during the dry season to prevent potential fire disasters.
