The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 20-year-old social media influencer Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, over an alleged attempted suicide and reckless driving that led to a serious road accident in Lagos.

The arrest followed a viral video on Sunday, December 14, 2025, showing Hamzat driving dangerously on a public road while live-streaming the incident. The crash reportedly endangered his life and those of other road users.

The police described Hamzat’s actions as a deliberate attempt to take his own life while putting innocent members of the public at grave risk.

In a statement on Tuesday, Police Public Relations Officer SP Abimbola Adebisi, speaking on behalf of Commissioner of Police CP Olohundare Jimoh, confirmed that the suspect is in custody and under investigation.

CP Jimoh also issued a stern warning to social media influencers, content creators, and the public against engaging in or promoting reckless or unlawful acts for online content. He stressed that such behaviour threatens public safety and order.

“The full weight of the law will be applied to anyone found culpable,” the police statement said.

The Lagos State Command urged all road users to comply strictly with traffic regulations and reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives, maintaining public order, and ensuring road safety across the state.
