Tinubu appoints governing councils for federal varsities, other institutions

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the appointment of new Governing Councils for Federal universities and tertiary institutions nationwide.

The appointments, revealed in a statement on Wednesday by Ajuri Ngelale, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, are intended to enhance the management and oversight of these institutions.

The newly appointed members include prominent Nigerians with diverse expertise, who are expected to effectively fulfill their roles and responsibilities.

Institutions impacted by these appointments include the Nigerian Maritime University, Nigerian University of Science and Technology, Federal University of Agriculture, Federal University of Health Sciences, and several others.

The President anticipates that the new Governing Councils will foster excellence and innovation within these institutions, advancing quality education and research for national progress.

The full list of appointees has been made available by the State House. Notably, Temi Harriman has been named Chairman of the Governing Council of Nigerian Maritime University, and Rabe Mudi Bala has been appointed Chairman of the Governing Council of Nigerian University of Science and Technology.

Other appointees include Bram Baifa, Ahmadu Barau Banye Salisu, and Habib Mohammed Ibrahim, among others.

The statement confirms that the appointments are effective immediately, with the President expecting the new councils to begin their work promptly.

“The President expects that the new members of the governing boards of these institutions will perform their functions effectively and creditably and within the ambits of their statutory responsibilities,” the statement reads.
