The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), has reaffirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to a justice sector that is accountable, efficient, and capable of delivering timely outcomes.

Fagbemi made the assurance in Abuja on Sunday at the launch of the Enterprise Content Management System (ECMS) by the Federal Ministry of Justice. During the event, he also inaugurated the renovated staff clinic, sports centre, creche, and staff canteen.

According to the AGF’s spokesman, Kamarudeen Ogundele, the ECMS is a digital platform designed to create, process, approve, store, and retrieve official documents electronically, marking a decisive shift from the era of manual and unstructured information management.

Ogundele quoted Fagbemi: “By digitizing our correspondences, emails, and legal documents, we are dismantling the bureaucratic bottlenecks that have historically slowed the wheels of justice. This transition to a paperless environment is a cornerstone of our digital transformation strategy, aligned with Pillar 5 of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan (FCSSIP25).

“The initiative also complements the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the National Policy on Justice, which call for justice institutions that are efficient, accountable, digitally enabled, and responsive to Nigerians. The ECMS is more than technology; it is a governance reform that strengthens institutional memory, improves decision-making, secures records, and enforces workflow discipline. Our goal is a modern, citizen-driven justice sector.”

Fagbemi noted that staff welfare and workplace modernization have been prioritised to foster an environment where excellence can thrive, reflecting reforms led by the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.

Dignitaries at the launch included the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack; the ministry’s Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Beatrice Jeddy-Agba; Permanent Secretaries of the Ministries of Interior and Health; and heads of agencies under the ministry.

Ogundele said Jeddy-Agba revealed that 6,241 physical files, comprising 331,297 pages, have been scanned and uploaded onto the 1Gov ECMS in the last eight weeks. She also reported achieving full email coverage for all staff, conducting multi-tiered ECM and digital skills training, activating departmental champions, and establishing clear SOPs and workflows for document tracking and approvals.

Jeddy-Agba said: “For too long, service delivery in the ministry has been hampered by delays associated with managing physical documents and manual correspondences. Today’s ‘Go-Live’ ceremony marks the end of that era. By digitizing our communications and files, we are adopting a modern, paperless culture that prioritizes efficiency, transparency, and accountability.”
