Residents of Kaduna were greeted over the weekend by a sudden surge of political posters featuring former Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, fuelling fresh speculation over early manoeuvres ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The A2-sized posters, which appeared overnight across key parts of the metropolis, portrayed Amaechi as a leading opposition figure, emblazoned with slogans such as “The Only Person to Be Trusted” and “The Only Man for the Job.” They also emphasized themes of unity, equality, stability, and development.

The displays were concentrated along major routes, including Ahmadu Bello Way, Ali Akilu Way, the vicinity of the Kaduna State Government House, and the Kawo Bridge axis leading to Zaria. The prominent placement drew the attention of motorists and pedestrians, briefly affecting vehicular movement around Kawo Bridge in the early hours.

Amaechi, who holds the traditional title of Dan Amanan Kasar Hausa of Daura, has a long political career. He served as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly from 1999 to 2007, Governor of Rivers State from 2007 to 2015, and Minister of Transportation from 2015 to 2023.

Political analysts in Kaduna view the poster campaign as an attempt by Amaechi’s supporters to gauge the political climate in the North, a region considered a key voting bloc in any presidential contest.

While Amaechi has yet to make any formal declaration, the posters have sparked conversations about a potential renewed presidential ambition and a possible opposition challenge to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.

The former Rivers State governor had previously contested the APC presidential primary in 2022, finishing second to Tinubu and ahead of then Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and former Senate President Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan.
