Tobi Amusan cleared to compete in World Championship

World Athletics has cleared Tobi Amusan to participate in this month’s world championship in Budapest, Hungary.

This means the reigning 100m hurdles champion will get the chance to defend her title.

The world governing body for athletics has included Amusan in the list of Nigerian athletes that will compete at the tournament.

But the 26-year-old’s participation will depend on if she overcomes the anti-doping rule violation charge brought against her by the Athletics Integrity Unit, AIU.

Amusan was provisionally suspended last month by the AIU for missing three drug tests, but the Nigerian decided to contest the charge.

The World Championships remains the only competition Amusan has not had the opportunity to defend after she successfully defended her Nigeria, African Championships, African Games, Commonwealth Games and Diamond League titles.

The 2023 World Athletics Championships will hold from August 19 to 27.
