Top seeds advance as CBN Tennis Championship reaches quarterfinals

Top seed Mohammed Khadijat underlined her title credentials at the 47th Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Senior Tennis Championship, cruising into the women’s singles quarterfinals with a commanding 6-1, 6-0 victory over wild card entrant Agunbiade Toluwalose.

The impressive win sets up a quarterfinal clash against Godwin Favour, with a place in the last four at stake.

Udofia Mary also advanced to the quarterfinals after a dominant 6-1, 6-2 triumph over Otu Blessing. She will face Ogunjobi Success in the final eight.

Ogunjobi booked her quarterfinal berth with an equally convincing performance, defeating Samuel Gloria 6-0, 6-3 in their second-round encounter.

In other women’s fixtures, Omotayo Blessing secured her quarterfinal berth with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Bamidele Abosede. She faces a tough test today against number two seed Emmanuel-Essien Bright. Meanwhile, Bassey Etoro will battle Suwa Nenrot, who advanced after a dominant 6-1, 6-0 victory over Olaniyan Abosede.

In the men’s singles category, tournament favourite and number one seed Abua Canice defeated Sani Musa 6-4, 6-3. Abua will now square off against Mohammed Dahiru, who advanced by beating Chinedu Sunday 6-1, 6-2.

Elsewhere in the men’s draw, Michael Chima defeated Sani Yahaya 6-2, 6-2 to set up a quarterfinal clash against wild card Edward David.

Meanwhile, men’s second seed who comfortably dismissed Onyekachi Ogunjiofor 6-1, 6-1 in his previous match, battled for the last quarter final slot with wild card entrant Muhammed Amir.
