Leeds manager, Jesse Marsch, has revealed they almost signed Cody Gakpo from PSV in the summer.
The Premier League side feel they had a deal “99.9%” agreed after talks.
However, the transfer broke down and Gakpo ended up staying with the Dutch club.
Marsch now admits it will be difficult to sign the forward after his impressive performances at the 2022 World Cup.
“It’s difficult for us at Leeds because I think Gakpo’s gotten out of our price range.
“I mean, we were so close to securing a transfer for him in the summer, it was so close, and now obviously it’s disappointing. Our sport director was in Holland meeting with the family, they had agreed on terms, on everything, was talking with PSV. I mean, we were 99.9% [agreed],” he told Men in Blazers.
