Flying Eagles stand a good chance of disarming their Italian counterparts in their second group game of the ongoing FIFA U-20 World Cup in Argentina, if they can play a compact game.
That was the submission of AC Milan starlet Victor Eletu. The former AC Milan U-19 captain maintained that their opponents who currently lead the group D are beatable but not on a platter.
The Ladan Bosso led side face the junior Azzuris tomorrow and will be hoping to consolidate after beating Dominican Republic in by a narrow margin in the opening match.
The Italian squad delivered a stunning upset by defeating five-time champions Brazil 3-2, while the Flying Eagles managed a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the Dominican Republic.
Eletu, who made a late substitute appearance in Sunday’s triumph, acknowledged the challenge ahead, noting that several Italian players have already featured for their respective senior clubs.
The youngster emphasized that the only path to victory against such a formidable opponent is through unity and teamwork.
“We must play as a team if we are to defeat them,” Eletu remarked, displaying confidence in their ability to progress to the next round. He further asserted that the Flying Eagles will give their utmost effort to secure qualification.
Echoing Eletu’s sentiments, Flying Eagles defender Solomon Agbalaka expressed optimism that the Flying Eagles will rise to the occasion.
The match will kick off tomorrow at 7 pm local time in Nigeria with Nigerian fans hoping that the flying Eagles will indeed fly especially after their younger brothers, the U-17 recently failed in their bid to pick a world cup ticket at the U-17 AFCON in Algeria.
