Roma boss Jose Mourinho called Juventus’ mid-season points deduction a “joke” in a heated post-match interview.

The Portuguese coach oversaw his side’s 2-2 draw with Salernitana on Monday night which left the Europa League finalists sixth in the Serie A table.

However, it was Mourinho’s comments after the match that grabbed the headlines, as the Roma boss took aim at league officials over Juventus’ recent sanction.

Earlier today, the Old Lady was hit with a 10-point deduction, having had her previous sentence reinstated following a verdict by Italy’s Federal Court of Appeal.

As a result, Juventus fell to 7th in the table – one place behind Mourinho’s Roma – and, in turn, freed up a potential Champions League place

However, Roma’s recent league results mean their chances of finishing in the top four have diminished, but Mourinho insists his side’s ‘approach’ would have changed had they been aware of the deduction .

Speaking after his side’s game on Monday, Mourinho said DAZN: ‘It’s a joke to know that with two games to play. For us and for everyone, even for Juventus.

“Our approach would have been different if we had known before the games with Monza and Bologna.

‘I am sorry for [Massimiliano] Allegri and his players, but at the league level, I must say that changes things a bit.

He was then asked if the season was distorted, to which he replied: ‘To me, yes, but I don’t want to talk about it anymore. I feel sorry for working professionals like me because they pay for mistakes made by managers and maybe the club.
