U20 AFCON title: Ogwuche predicts victorious outing for Flying Eagles in the final

Man of the Match against Uganda Abel Ogwuche has said the next target for the Flying Eagles after qualifying for the U20 World Cup is to win a record-extending eighth U20 AFCON title in Egypt.

Sweden-based central defender Ogwuche shone as the Flying Eagles edged past Uganda 1-0 to qualify for the U20 World Cup in Indonesia in May as well as reach the semifinal of the U20 AFCON.

Nigeria will next clash with the winners of today’s U20 AFCON quarterfinal between Gambia and South Sudan for a place in the tournament final.

“It is a great feeling to win (vs Uganda) and it was our dream from the start of the tournament to get the World Cup ticket and now we’re looking forward to taking the trophy home,” Ogwuche said.

“We just wanted to come and win. That was our motivation, to secure the World Cup ticket and we made it.

“We had to secure our place in the World Cup. That’s why we all put in a strong performance to win.”
