Jude Sunday has vowed to score in the Flying Eagles’ upcoming clash against Italy at the ongoing 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup in Argentina.
In what was his second competitive start for the Nigeria U20s, the Real Sapphire star was arguably the standout player for the Flying Eagles in their come-from-behind win against Dominican Republic and was unfortunate not to find the net with his shots either saved of failing to hit the target.
Sunday has broken into the Flying Eagles starting lineup after impressing in the third place playoff at the 2023 Africa U20 Cup of Nations and in friendly matches ahead of the tournament in Argentina.
The 18-year-old netted a brace against Tunisia at the AFCON and scored a brilliant goal as the Flying Eagles were held to a 3-3 draw by Colombia last week.
Speaking to NFF TV, Sunday said: “Thank God we won, I was thinking about the match before it, thank God for the victory. We are looking forward to the next match against Italy and get ready for the match.”

Next up for Nigeria, they face Italy who shocked Brazil 3-2 in their opening Group D fixture.
“I am ready for the match. We need to win the match, it is very important to us. I will try my possible best to score and maybe assist,” noted Sunday while looking ahead to Wednesday’s game at the Estadio Malvinas Argentinas, Mendoza.
“My message to Nigerians is for them to put us in prayers and keep backing us and we’ll do our best in the next game.”
