It was goals galore at the opening day of the second season of the United Football Championship (UFC) games played Sunday, as 12 goals were recorded in just two matches.
Last season’s Super 8 winner, Box 2 Box FC which also finished second in the league last year, pummeled Starbase FC by 3-1 in an exciting opening encounter.
But defending champion, Glorious Day FA responded adequately as the true champions they are by whitewashing L Mirado FC by 8-0 in the second and last game of the day.
Warris Adesanya netted a brace for Box 2 Box to set the tune for their 3-1 victory in the opening match, while in the second game of the day, Morris Ali scored four times for his team Glorious Day as they mauled L Mirado 8-0.
Both players deservingly won Man-of-the-match awards in the respective games, amidst their cheering and joyous fans.
Glorious day coach, Adeola Olatunde praised his players for taking their chances in the game while also admitting that retaining the league title is not going to come easy.
“I must commend my players for creating and taking our chances. We took our chances today and that’s what made the huge difference.
“As defending champion we know that much is expected of us, but honestly to retain the crown is not going to be easy”, he said.
There was an appreciable crowd that watched the matches including a representative of the Surulere local government chairman, Adedeyinde Labinjo
