We failed to achieve our targets – Akwa United’s boss Deji Ayeni

Akwa United head coach, Ayodeji Ayeni, has expressed disappointment following his team’s failure to make Nigeria Premier Football League Super Six playoffs.

Akwa ended their campaign with a win against Gombe United, but wasn’t enough to guarantee qualification as Enyimba and Remo Stars got needed results and joined already qualified Bendel Insurance.

The Promise Keepers ended the regular campaign fourth, same points with Enyimba, but the Aba Elephants advanced due to better goal difference.

“I’m disappointed that we are unable to make it to the Super-Six playoffs,” he told the club’s media.

“From the beginning of the season, our target was to finish among the top three teams in Group A, so we could challenge for the league title.
It’s not what we wished for but that is football for you,” he concluded.

Ayeni’s side will now embark on break as they have been knocked out of this season’s Federation Cup.
