Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has pledged to remain focused on governance despite the political tensions rocking the state.
Fubara spoke on Wednesday shortly after inspecting the ongoing construction of the Borokiri and Creek markets in the Town Area of Port Harcourt.
The governor said he had assured the people of the state that his administration would continue to deliver on the mandate freely given to it.
Cheered by a crowd of residents during the visit, Fubara said his foremost obligation was to inspire confidence in his leadership.
He said: “I promised our people that no matter the situation we find ourselves in, we will not lose focus on governance. Our people have entrusted us with this responsibility, and the least we owe them is confidence in leadership and the assurance that governance will continue strongly.”

The governor explained that the project was part of his administration’s efforts to restore the aesthetics of the Port Harcourt Town area and curb roadside trading.
He said: “You will recall that sometime last year I visited this place and made a promise that, in our bid to restore the town to its old ambience, we must address the issue of trading along Creek Road and other major streets. That is why there is a need to fix the market.
“After inspecting ongoing road projects, I came here to see firsthand what is happening at the market site.
“As you can see, the contractor has mobilised to site, and I believe work will commence fully within the next week.
“What we are trying to do is clear. Driving through Creek Road has become difficult because we do not have a proper market settlement. Once this market is completed, traders on the streets will move inside. That will allow the roads to be properly fixed and the beauty of the town to reflect again.
“I earlier mentioned that road rehabilitation is also part of our plan. We are not just fixing roads; we must fix the market so that traders along the roads can relocate. The road rehabilitation will run from Borokiri through all parts of the Port Harcourt township to ensure that the roads are properly restored.”
