We’re Not Going to CHAN Just to Participate – Gusau Vows to Fight for the Trophy

Date:

NFF President Ibrahim Gusau has declared that the home-based Super Eagles are heading to the African Nations Championship (CHAN) with the ambition of winning the trophy, marking their return to the tournament after a 12-year absence.

Gusau highlighted the determination and potential displayed by the team during their qualifiers against Ghana, emphasizing their resilience and the “Nigerian spirit” shown, particularly in the intense away match in Accra.

“You saw what happened in the last match against Ghana to qualify for the championship. People saw it as a ray of hope for Nigerian football. The match in Ghana was more intense, and the boys stood their ground,” Gusau said.

To prepare for the challenge, Gusau detailed a comprehensive plan for the team, which includes domestic and foreign camping, alongside quality friendly matches to ensure peak readiness. “We will camp the players in a place where they can fully concentrate, and then take them for foreign camping. We are committed to giving them all the preparation they deserve,” he assured.

The NFF President also underscored the importance of integrating local talent into the national team setup, tasking the new coach with scouting standout players from the CHAN squad for potential elevation to the senior Super Eagles.

“Our goal is to return to CHAN as champions after such a long absence. By the grace of God, we will achieve that,” Gusau concluded.
