Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has congratulated the Rivers United Football Club for winning the 2021/22 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

Rivers United was confirmed champions of the league following Plateau United 2-1 away loss to Akwa United on Saturday.

The governor in a statement signed by his Special Assistant, Media, Kelvin Ebiri, commended the players and coaching staff of the state-owned football club, adding the memorable victory ended their five-year NPFL title wait.

Wike, who attributed the achievement of Rivers United to the team’s determination, said it was most heart-warming that by virtue of the victory, the club would represent the country at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League next season.
