Manchester City star midfielder, Bernardo Silva, has said that while Brazil has Neymar and Argentina parades Lionel Messi, Portugal will always depend on Cristiano Ronaldo.
The midfielder said it is natural for the Portugal team to play for Ronaldo, insisting the 37-year-old has the ability to decide games by himself.
Silva said that Ronaldo serves Portugal same way Neymar, Messi serve Brazil and Argentina respectively and Kylian Mbappe always helping France.
According to Silva, these players have the unique qualities of deciding the fate of the game in a few minutes.
Quizzed if Portugal sometimes play for Ronaldo to get a breakthrough, Silva told FIFA via A BOLA, “The reality is that, when we have a player like Cristiano Ronaldo, it is natural that, sometimes, we play for him, because he can win the game in the final minutes.
“The same happens in other countries. It is natural, for example, that France always look to Mbappé, because he can decide a match at any time. Brazil has Neymar, Argentina has Messi.”
Portugal boss, Fernando Santos, has however been criticised for including the 37-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo in his squad for the tournament.
Wolverhampton Wanderers interim manager Steve Davis had slammed Portugal for having the former Real Madrid and Juventus star in the team instead of Wolves midfielder, Joao Moutinho.
Davis said he does not understand why Portugal has picked the 37-year-old Ronaldo in their 2022 FIFA World Cup squad.
