World Cup play-offs: Eagles coaches spy on Black Stars in Premier League

Nigeria coaches Augustine Eguavoen and Emmanuel Ameneke were among the spectators at the Emirates Stadium in London as Arsenal defeated Brentford 2-1 in an English Premier League clash on Saturday afternoon.

Eguavoen’s intention was to kill two birds with one stone by checking out Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka and one of the key players in the Ghana squad Thomas Partey.

A second Black Stars player, Tariqe Fosu was not in the Bees matchday squad as he is way short on match fitness after recovering from a long-term injury but the winger remains in contention to be named in the Ghana squad having returned to action in a behind closed doors game against Southend United last week.

Partey was one of the standout players for the Gunners against Brentford and provided the assist for the second goal scored by Bukayo Saka in the 79th minute.

Onyeka would surely be disappointed that he did not taste against Arsenal with his national team coach in attendance.

However, the former FC Midtjylland midfielder met with Eguavoen after the game.

Nigeria and Ghana will face off in a 2022 World Cup playoff match at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on March 24 and the return leg comes up at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja three days later.
