Zambian Super League club, Zanaco FC, yesterday announced the departure of its consultant , former Super Eagles coach, Emmanuel Amuneke after a spate of poor results.
Appointed in September 2022 as consultant along with his Nigerian assistant Emeka Amadi, the club announced the departure of the duo in a signed letter by its Chief executive Officer Modest Hamalabbi stating inter alia:“ The Board of Directors and Management of Zanaco Football Club wishes to announce that the club has separated with the consultant Coach Mr. Emmanuel Amuneke and the Assistant Coach Mr. Emeka Amadi with immediate effect. The club has also separated with the Head Coach Kevin Kaindu.
“The Board of Directors and Management wish to thank the three coaches for the services rendered to the club and accordingly wish the coaches all the best in their future endeavours. “
Aside the announcement of the departure of Amuneke and Amadi, Zanaco’s management in the same statement announced the appointment of erstwhile Zambia’s national team coach Wedson Nyirenda as an interim manager until the end of the season.
Observers believed recent poor run of results may have led the club’s club management to take the decisive action after Zanaco failed to win their last eight matches with the last being 1-0 home defeat to NAPSA Stars in a league tie,
Amuneke who won Nigeria’s fifth FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2015, made history by qualifying Tanzania for their second Africa Cup of Nations in 2019 since their debut at the 1980 edition hosted by Nigeria . But he failed to whip the same Magic wand in the Zambian Super League as Zanaco are currently placed 13th on the 18-team table after matchday 28.
