…praises police protection of workers
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on Saturday ordered strict adherence to the Osun State Local Government Accounts Administration Law, 2025, which governs the opening, management, and operation of local government accounts.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor commended the Osun State chapter of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) for deciding to resume work on January 5, describing the move as patriotic and people-oriented.
The decision ends an 11-month strike by the union over disputes involving the control of local government councils between the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Adeleke said the workers’ return reflected the labour movement’s awareness of the needs and aspirations of the people. He expressed optimism that January 5 would mark a new beginning for revitalised services and improved social delivery at the grassroots.
The governor emphasised that local government administration is the most effective avenue for reaching residents, noting that the labour leaders’ decision demonstrated confidence in responsible leadership.

He also lauded the police for enforcing law and order at local government secretariats across the state.
“As much as I commend the NULGE leadership, I must also appreciate the Inspector General of Police, the Assistant Inspector General for Zone 11, and the Osun State Commissioner of Police for providing security for the lawful resumption of council activities,” Adeleke said.
“The police have acted responsibly to prevent anarchy and violence planned by some elements. Their prompt intervention has nipped any untoward incidents in the bud. We expect the command to follow through on directives against attempts to disrupt workers’ resumption,” he added.
Adeleke reiterated his support for local government autonomy but stressed that the rule of law and due process must guide its implementation. He called for compliance with constitutional and statutory provisions in financial and administrative matters, insisting that legitimately elected council leadership should exercise its mandate without hindrance.
“We welcome the workers back to duty. We commend the police and security agencies for maintaining peace. Only under harmonious conditions can the dividends of democracy be fully delivered. Peace, unity, and adherence to democratic principles are essential for progress,” the governor stated.
