…. Expresses Optimism Ahead of Commonwealth Games

President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Chief Tonobok Okowa, says the board of the federation is working round the clock to ensure that home-based athletes get the needed support to excel.

Chief Okowa stated this at the Day-One of the on-going National Trials/ qualifying series for the 2026 Commonwealth Games at the Yabatech Sports Complex, Yaba, Lagos.

According to him, the AFN Board is striving hard in close collaboration with the leadership of the National Sports Commission to develop the burden talents in the country.

He, however, commended both young and elite athletes across various events that have enjoyed outstanding season so far.

On the 2026 Commonwealth Games scheduled to hold in Glasgow, he said the AFN, will ensure the games is the most successful outing for Nigeria as a three week camping program has already been scheduled by the National Sports Commission for the athletes in Aberdeen.

“I really want to commend the NSC because the athletes will be camping in Aberdeen for three weeks and head to Glasgow, two days before the games begin” he said.
