Edo Queens Football Club continues to bask in the euphoria of their historic triumph as champions of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership, exactly one week after securing the coveted title — a feat that further highlights the strength, resilience and growing dominance of women’s football in Edo State.
The remarkable achievement was sealed during a tense Matchday 5 encounter against Bayelsa Queens, where supporters and fans across the country watched with anticipation as Edo Queens battled for the crucial point needed to lift the trophy. The team eventually delivered, emerging champions for the second time in two years under the guidance of Coach Moses Aduku.
The victory, which has attracted widespread celebration from sports lovers and stakeholders, reflects not only the dedication and commitment of the players and technical crew but also the deliberate support, vision and leadership that have created an enabling environment for the team to succeed.
At the centre of this success story is the impactful leadership of Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, whose commitment to sports development and advancement continues to inspire confidence and progress within Edo Queens and across other sporting disciplines in the state.
Through his strategic approach and commitment to excellence, the team has enjoyed a renewed sense of purpose, professionalism and motivation, with emphasis placed on discipline, teamwork and improved performance. His leadership has helped create an atmosphere where athletes can maximise their potential while proudly representing Edo State on the national stage.
The triumph has further positioned Edo State firmly on the map of women’s football in Nigeria, reaffirming the state’s rich sporting heritage under the grassroots-driven sports development vision of the administration of Distinguished Senator Monday Okpebholo through the SHINE Agenda.
Beyond the trophy, Edo Queens’ success represents the power of investment in grassroots development, talent discovery and sustainable sports management. It is a clear demonstration of what can be achieved when leadership, passion and commitment align with a focused vision.
Hon. Enabulele has continued to emphasise the importance of supporting athletes, nurturing young talents and building structures that allow sports to thrive. This approach has also contributed to the state’s sporting achievements, including Edo State’s victory at the second edition of the Niger Delta Games held in Benin City.
His leadership philosophy has positioned Edo Queens beyond just a football team; they have become a symbol of inspiration and a source of motivation for aspiring female footballers across the state and beyond.
As celebrations continue one week after the historic victory, the achievement of Edo Queens serves as a reminder that with the right leadership, support and commitment, Edo State remains capable of producing champions who can compete and excel at the highest levels.
The 2025/2026 NWFL Premiership triumph will remain a landmark chapter in the history of Edo Queens — a victory built on talent, dedication and the impactful leadership that continues to drive the team towards greater heights.
