Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has announced that its Special Investigative Panel has concluded investigations into 16 armed forces officers alleged to have breached service regulations, acted indisciplinarily, and committed other infractions. The officers are now set to face a military Court Martial.
Major General Samaila Uba, Director of Defence Information, made the disclosure in a statement in Abuja on Monday.
The DHQ had in October 2025 announced the arrest of the officers, noting that the investigations were conducted in accordance with established military procedures and extant regulations.
Major Gen Uba said the panel examined all circumstances surrounding the conduct of the affected personnel and identified several officers with cases to answer, including allegations linked to plotting to overthrow the government. He described such acts as inconsistent with the ethics, values, and professional standards expected of members of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
He emphasised that the actions being taken are “purely disciplinary and part of internal institutional mechanisms to preserve discipline, cohesion and operational effectiveness within the ranks.”
The director reaffirmed the Armed Forces’ commitment to professionalism, loyalty, and respect for constitutional authority, assuring the public that due process and fairness will be strictly observed throughout the proceedings.
