Barring any last-minute change, Yoruba nation agitator, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, is expected to return to Nigeria today, January 26, 2026.
Olayomi Koiki, spokesman for Igboho, said all arrangements had been concluded for his principal’s return following the intervention of prominent traditional rulers, who reportedly prevailed on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to remove Igboho’s name from the list of wanted persons.
According to Koiki, the monarchs involved in the intervention include the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja; the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi; and the Olugbon of Orile Igbon, Oba Francis Alao, among others.
On arrival today, Igboho is expected to proceed to the palace of the Olubadan of Ibadanland to pay homage.
Security has been tightened around his residence, with detachments of policemen and other security agencies deployed at strategic locations.
Confirming the development, Koiki said Igboho was already en route to the country.
“As I’m speaking to you, Chief Sunday Adeyemo is on his way to Nigeria,” he said.
“He should arrive any moment from now. He resides in the Benin Republic and is heading straight to Ibadan to meet the Olubadan today, by the special grace of God.”
Koiki further disclosed that Igboho was no longer being sought by Nigerian authorities, attributing the development to sustained royal interventions, political goodwill and consistent advocacy by Yoruba leaders at home and abroad.
Meanwhile, supporters of the activist have converged on his Soka residence in Ibadan to welcome him.
Various Yoruba socio-cultural groups, including the Oodua Peoples’ Congress (OPC), Agbekoya Vigilante Group and the Ifelodun Security Network, were also sighted at the residence ahead of his arrival.
Igboho’s return marks another homecoming. He was last in the country in 2024, when he attended the burial ceremony of his late mother.
