Aruna and Assar, ranked 19th and 22nd respectively in the world, have been seeded 14th and 16th in the men’s singles event for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
This seeding ensures they will commence their campaign from the second round, based on the latest rankings from the International Table Tennis Federation released on Tuesday.
China’s Wang Chuqin, the world’s top-ranked player, leads the seeding followed by Tokyo 2020 silver medalist Fan Zhendong.
The draw for the first round matches will take place on July 24, determining opponents for players like Nigeria’s Olajide Omotayo and Egypt’s Mohammed El-Beiali among others.

In the women’s singles, Egypt’s Dina Meshref narrowly missed the top 16, placing 17th, with her compatriot Hana Goda seeded 20th. Both will start their Olympic journey from the second round.
Additionally, Nigerian players Offiong Edem and Fatimo Bello, alongside Cameroon’s Sarah Hanffou and Algeria’s Lynda Loghraibi, will also begin from the second round in the women’s singles category.
Meanwhile, Aruna anticipates the upcoming Indian Ultimate Table Tennis season with enthusiasm, expressing his eagerness to represent U Mumba TT and aiming to perform at his best.
The 35-year-old shared his excitement in a video uploaded by U Mumba, stating, “I am very happy to be back with the best team in UTT U Mumba, and I am looking forward to the new season. I hope I will give my best and make the team proud.”
The Ultimate Table Tennis franchises recently concluded their Player Draft in Mumbai, selecting squads for the 2024 season scheduled at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai from August 22 to September 7.
