CAFCL: Gallant Plateau United Bow To Dubious Penalty Against Esperance

Plateau United fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat at the hands of Tunisian giants Esperance at the Rades Stadium in their CAF Champions League group stage playoff second leg clash. The visitors lost to a dubious penalty in the late stages of the match on Saturday night.

The hosts were awarded a controversial penalty in the 83rd minute by the centre referee.

Esperance sailed through on away goal rule having lost the first leg 2-1.

Plateau United put a brave fight in the game with Suraj Ayeleso making a number of impressive saves.

The Peace Boys have now dropped to the CAF Confederation Cup following their elimination.

Nigeria’s other representative in the competition Rivers United will confront defending champions Wydad Athletic Club of Morocco on Sunday.
